Greetings

October 1, 2015 by David Schulman

The business of business is business. It’s a given that, as a leader, most of your energy is focused on enterprise concerns. But whatever enterprise you happen to be in, you’re also deep into the people business.

People drive our outcomes. Benevolent instincts aside, this makes our people a very significant enterprise concern.

It’s for this reason that so much is being said all the time about leadership. I’m plugged into the global leadership conversation. It’s an important, if bloated discussion, and a huge, ongoing endeavor sorting through it all. So, beyond my one-on-one approach to supporting you, I’ve resolved to help you access valuable information without having to look for it.

Keep reading what interests you in the leadership domain. In the meantime, I’ll highlight the gems, the most useful and highly actionable ideas, as I find them. I’ll also share real-time leadership themes in this space. Stuff I encounter in my work that you don’t need to discover on your own to grow from. Stuff that lifts us (and trips us), annotated here for your consideration.

Expect a disciplined conversation, short on chatter. Please join me. Read and contribute at DBS Commentary.

By the way, forget about great leadership for now. What’s involved in merely being a good leader? From my front row seat working with leaders of all stripes, here’s a little gem: want to.

Yup. Over all else, become relentlessly committed to those you lead. Do this, and your troubles are, in large measure, over.

If it were easy, most of us would have amazing work relationships, free-flowing and honest communication and the engagement and devotion of our people to match. The challenge is the people. Us. Them. Me. You.
